New seed bank for Irish Seed Savers

November 6, 2011

Irish Seed Savers Association (ISSA) have announced that the second phase of their seed bank expansion will begin later this year, after a successful application for EU LEADER funds which will cover 75% of the construction costs. The new seed bank building will be 114 sq M in size, with separate rooms for seed drying, processing, storage and packaging. The building will also include a loading area and a glazed solar drying facility, and it will be built using ecologically friendly materials and a living roof. Visitors will be able tour the solar drying area and view seed processing and packaging activities through viewing panels in the walls. The new facility will bring all of the ISSA’s seed saving processes under one roof.
